Celebrating 91 Years & Looking Ahead
June came and went in a flash. It was, as usual, an incredibly active month for the studio and marked very special milestone for Jim.
From the foundries of Switzerland to print studios in Madrid, Jim’s summer has been defined by non-stop artistic exploration. Amidst a whirlwind of creating new prints and sculptures, Jim also celebrated his 91st birthday.
Below, a look at what kept the studio moving this past month.
The Second Gate Sculpture
Kunstgiesserei St. Gallen | Switzerland
Jim spent the first part of June in Switzerland working alongside Nathan Federer on a monumental new project. Following The Gate Where Venus Sleeps (2025), which debuted in Naples last year, this second gate structure utilizes a frame acquired in Normandy. Jim has been actively transforming the piece using original bronze castings and found tools directly from the foundry floor.
New Etchings & A Milestone in Madrid
Benveniste Contemporary | Spain
After Switzerland, Jim traveled to Madrid to collaborate with master printer Dan Benveniste on a major new etching at Benveniste Contemporary. This striking new work is being created ahead of its official debut in London, scheduled for January 2027 at Cristea Roberts Gallery. It was also here in Madrid that Jim celebrated his 91st birthday, surrounded by art, ink, and continuous creation!
The Grammar of Jim Dine
Palm Springs Art Museum | California
OpeningNovember 20, 2026
Looking toward the fall, Jim traveled West to fine-tune The Grammar of Jim Dine, a massive upcoming exhibition drawn from the renowned Jordan Schnitzer Collection. Curated by Director Christine Vendredi, this extensive survey will feature approximately 180 pieces—spanning multiples, sculptures, and paintings that trace six decades of the artist's legendary career.
West Coast Site Visit
Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art | University of Oregon
While Out West, Jim met with Olivia Miller, Executive Director of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, to tour the campus collection and celebrate the vital role the institution plays as an artistic resource for the university's students. During the visit, Jim also had the wonderful opportunity to view one of his sculptures—originally acquired at the Venice Biennale in 2024—freshly installed in its new home close to campus.
